DigiGyel is a three-year initiative (2026–2028) led by VTOB Foundation with funding from The Dariu Foundation and in close consultation with MoESD, designed to introduce AI literacy into 500 schools across Bhutan, train 500 teachers (1 per school), and equip 50,000 students with foundational AI knowledge and practical skills.

The project seeks to bridge the digital gap by introducing AI literacy into Bhutanese high schools. Through teacher training, AI Club establishment, laptop provision, boot camps, and annual AI Expos, the initiative aims to prepare youth for an AI-driven future. Key components include training 500 teachers across 500 schools, distributing 810 laptops, establishing 500 AI Clubs and 3 Dariu Tech Clubs, organising 6 boot camps, and conducting 3 annual AI exhibitions. The project promotes ethical AI use and aims for school-level sustainability beyond the project period. Implementing partners are VTOB Foundation, The Dariu Foundation (TDF), and the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD).

VTOB will organise six boot camps during term breaks for at least 50 students each, and one national AI Expo annually to showcase student work.
Ensure school-level sustainability beyond the project period
At least 50% of the 500 schools continue AI Club operations without external funding after 2028. Bhutan-specific AI manuals and LMS content developed.
Maintain transparent management and accountability
Annual external audits completed. Regular monitoring, school visits, and annual learning reviews conducted with key stakeholders.
